Six BWBC members recorded their first Century rides today. Congratulations
to Bill Shetler, Terri Turski. Heidi Jean, Tom Cina, Pat Baird, and yours truly
Pat Lord. Craig Maefs started in the fast group of riders and probably should
be added to this list. My odometer recorded 102 miles, average speed 13.9 mph,
riding time 7 hours 22 minutes, ride time with much appreciated breaks more
like 10 hours.
Kudos to Walt Nicholson who trailblazed our journey while challenging himself
in a new way. Walt road a bike that had no gears and couldn't coast so he pedalled
continuously for one hundred miles. That's Walt!
Special thanks to our ride leader, Bill Jerge, who was a marvelous shepherd
and didn't lose any of his sheep (Pat Baird had a flat en route and was temporarily
unaccounted for until the Youngstown breakfast stop). Thanks, Bill, for guiding
us home and encouraging us along the way.
Bruno Perfette gets the master recruiter award. He advertised the fact that
he was going to do a moderately paced Century and invited anyone to join him
in this endeavor. Terri and Heidi and I believed him and bought into this plan.
Thanks, Bruno. I wouldn't have attempted this ride if you hadn't assured me
I could do it.
We had a good time on this adventure. The weather was super as was the camaraderie.
How fortunate to have Jack Matheson and Pat Stanczyk along to keep up our morale
with their almost constant patter. They are 5 Star traveling companions.
I'm not sure who went out fast and first besides Barb Ciepiela and Craig Maefs.
I'm sure they have stories to tell also.
Thanks BWBC group for taking me along on my first Century. It hasn't sunk in
yet in my head but my body sure got the message.
