BWBC Ride Categories

This is a classification system for our rides to help members select rides that they can accomplish without undo difficulty.

Skill levels:

1. Beginner: rides at less than 11 miles per hour for 10 to 15 miles
2. Intermediate: can ride at 12 – 15 miles per hour for 25 to 30 miles
3. Advanced: can ride at 14 + miles per hour for 40 miles

Mon AM Grand Island: This is a self-directed 21 mile loop around Grand Island. There are usually small groups going at various speeds. Any one who can ride 21 miles can complete this ride. Most riders are retirees. Skill level 1 - 2

Mon PM. Ellicott Creek Island Park: This ride is usually 10 to 12 miles per hour and may cover 10 to 15 miles depending on the participants. New members who are unsure of their biking ability should try this ride. Skill level 1

Tues PM. Brighton Park: This ride follows a script with increasing mileage as the season progresses. Generally this ride will average 13 miles per hour and can cover 25 miles. Skill level 2

Wed AM Ellicott Creek Island Park: The distance will vary from 20 to 30 miles at a speed of about 13 miles per hour. Most riders are retirees who stop at a half way point for a coffee break*. Skill level 2

Wed PM. A different starting point each week is the theme of this ride. Check the calendar to learn where the ride begins. Skill Level 2.

First Thursday AM. The Niagara on the Lake Ride can be completed by most club members. There are generally several groups on this ride. It is about 25 miles in length and can be accomplished at the participants pace. There is a lunch stop on the return trip. Also, there is a hill to climb at the end of the ride. Skill level 2

Third Thursday AM Chippewa: This is about 28 miles at a speed of about 13 miles per hour. It is a predetermined route so slower riders can complete it. There is a coffee stop in Chippewa*. Most riders are retirees. Skill level 2

Thurs PM. The leader selects the route, which may be up to 25 miles at about 13 miles per hour. Skill level 2

Fri AM Brighton Park: The distance will vary from 20 to 30 miles at a speed of about 13 miles per hour. Most riders are retirees who stop at a half way point for a coffee break*. Skill level 2

Second Fri PM: Cycles + Clarence. An evening ride that covers 20 to 25 miles at 13 to 15 miles per hour. Skill level 2

Fourth Fri PM: Cycles +. East Aurora. An evening ride that covers 20 to 25 miles at 13 to 15 miles per hour with some hills. Skill level 2 - 3red bikers

Sat AM. Brighton Park: The leader selects the route which may be up to 30 miles at a rate of about 13 miles per hour. There may be a coffee break on this ride* Skill level 2 - 3

Sun AM. This is a planned ride with a map to follow. These rides can be up to 70 miles in length at a rate of 15 miles per hour. They are for the more skilled rider. Skill level 3. For many Sun rides there is a shorter loop of less than 30 miles generally with a coffee stop at the half way point. Skill level 2

Sun PM Brighton Park. This is an easy ride for beginners. May cover 10 miles at the pace of the slowest rider. Skill level 1

Special Breakfast rides. Generally are 20 to 25 miles in length at about 10 miles per hour. Skill level 1

*Coffee breaks are usually 15 to 20 minutes. Some participants may extend the coffee break and ride back in a separate group. AM rides will return between 12:00 and 12:30 PM.
